As Good As New

Ignore the carrot control...

Due to busy work commitments we have been unable to find the time to keep people updated on the winter maintenance of Moonshine, until now.

Peter went down to I.V.S.S Marine in Sandwich, Kent 2 weeks ago, to collect the newly overhauled outdrives.
The drives have been shot blasted to bare metal, a full strip down and rebuild, and full repaint in two pack paint.

We are really pleased with the standard of workmanship on the drives.  They are returned ready to fit to the boat, filled with oil, hook up bushes, new anodes, new decals fitted and the UJ joints come fitted with a grease nipple to ensure a long service life, something which Volvo do not fit as standard.
It is nice to deal with a reputable firm that do excellent standard work at a fair price.  We are very much looking forward to these being refitted in a few weeks time prior to relaunch, and hopefully Moonshine will be as good as new once again.

    2. Hi again.
We purchased Chelmer (Seamaster 813) in 1998 from Tower Marine, Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire. Prior to our ownership she had been owned by a chap who we were told was a college lecturer and also a marine engineer by trade. He had fitted her out from bare mouldings for his family use, but had taken too long and his family had flown the nest by the time she was completed. She had remained in a shed during this time at Baildon, however she had sustained some vandalism and this led to him selling her. Our ownership of her was by complete chance, as we had been looking for an 813 not a Seamaster 27, and the owner of Tower Marine said they were getting one in in a weeks time that had never been in the water...we were sceptical as we thought he probably meant a 27, but he was indeed correct. We epoxied the hull, had a new canopy made and reupholstered her with cushions and curtains, and finally named her Chelmer. We owned her for 3 years, and cruised extensively crossing the Wash several times from Boston to Denver getting as far as Bedford, along with numerous trips on the tidal Yorkshire Ouse and Trent until she was sold in 2001 to a fellow club member at SYBC. She was since sold to yet another club member at SYBC where she remained until 4 or 5 years ago when she went to Scotland. When we had her she had a Perkins 4108 engine and PRM Gearbox. We fitted a Vetus bowthruster. Had we of kept her longer we would have fitted a larger rudder as she was a sod to turn in the wind with her small rudder. A good little boat that gave us very little trouble. Hope this info helps. Keep us updated

    2. We are getting itchy feet to get on the water again. Whilst the weather was great for polishing last weekend it would have also been perfect cruising weather. Only a few odd jobs to finish off now for us, we just need one dry day this coming weekend!

  3. They listed it as built in 1998 but seamaster ceased trading in 81 which is confusing.

  4. That will tie in with when we 1st launched her, we never knew when she was moulded, but we essentially bought a brand new boat.

    1. I will look through the photos and see what I have, as I said the previous owner to us fitted her out, so the only photos I have will be from her 1st launch in 98. We purchased an Ocean 30 called Oceans Eleven from Ely (think she is now on the Norfolk Broads) after owning Chelmer, and these are cavernous after having the Seamaster. It really is dependant on budget of course, how big a boat you need for your family and cruising purposes/capabilities. I will email you some later today.
